Everybody Can Be A Star
Acting

Portfolio importance for online casting.

Getting your online portfolio right is important because process of getting acting or modeling work online consists of two stages.

Getting invited to an audition or casting and winning one.

Video production industry moves fast. Very fast. This means that people responsible for castings are always on a tight schedule and they need to review hundreds and thousands of possible candidates in shortest terms to find the right fit. So lets make their life easier and increase your chances to get noticed and selected.

Probably you have a fancy portfolio made by some top notch photographers that costed you your life savings and that you are very proud of.  It is nice to have, no doubt and it may come in handy later. But what people responsible for video or movie casting are looking for in the first place is your version as a working material. I know this does not sound very glamorous but we all know how good photoshop is at changing  people very well. You pick one person and then somebody you have never seen before arrives.

All you really need for a good initial impression is a few photos against a white (or any other color) solid background, some light and at least a decent smartphone. If your friend has a DSLR ask for a little favor, it will only take a few minutes and it will potentially save days for a poor guy who is doing initial selection of candidates for a producer or a casting director. In fact, even if he likes your fancy portfolio, he will not be able to include you in the initial list as he has certain instructions from “above”. “Polaroids only”, meaning that it must contain some photos on clear background, with no makeup (“nude makeup” is sometimes accepted though).

Here are a few basic examples of photos that will improve your chances of getting invited to an audition. Images for this portfolio were done with very little effort and did not take more than 5 minutes to do with the simplest equipment at hand to replicate most of real life situations.

Make some full body shots from different angles: front, 45 degrees, profile, and from the back.

Also add some closeups that accentuate on your facial features.

Do not retouch the images and DO NOT put any filters on it. It is as good as it is. If you are shy to appear as you are it will show lack of your self confidence, and lack of self confidence will not get you far in your acting career. In that case you might just want to reconsider. Honestly. It will save you a lot of time and unnecessary frustration.

Once you get the images. Make a use of location and shoot a short introduction video where you say a few words. You can say your name, name your hobbies, tell about some special talents of yours like horse riding, or probably you can do a back flip on a bicycle without hurting  yourself or anyone around you. Keep it under one minute. Nobody will watch your 15 minute monologue or acting. If they like it they will invite you to an audition where you will be able to present all you acting stunts.  Keep it short, keep it simple. Here is a simple example that will get you going.

Now that you have got the “must to be done” in place, you can upload photos from that glamorous portfolio of yours. It may help, it may not. While portfolio for models is different and these images are needed to show your previous work, portfolio for actors is a little bit different. Add video links of your previous work, that might help once “the big boss” is interested so that they do not have to ask separately. And always keep your basic information updated. Weight, height, hair color, your current location, your current sex etc. These are essentials and there is not much to be said about this.

All you have to do now is get the exposure. Naturally we recommend www.bescouted.com Profiles are public, meaning you can always send your profile link to anybody. You can add video, apply to different castings on the platform and be discovered by one of the many agencies and producers looking for the next celebrity to be.  We can not guarantee you get the next blockbuster role, but we can arrange a meeting. If you do your part i.e.

Now go out there and we want to see you on a big screen. Anybody can be a star. BeScouted
